The Blast Spotlight: L.E.G.A.C.Y.

The Giant Blast: It's 2010, do you feel that the music scene in North Carolina (not the entire music industry, just that ol' NC Hip Hop) has improved sense 2002 when the Justus League really hit the scene or have gotten worse?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.:
Oh yeah it's gotten worse, the NC Hip Hop scene is at an all time low. It's been leaning in that direction for quite some time. The majority of the North Carolina music scene is a cheap imitation of other regions or what is the popular trend in the mainstream now, so basically a lot of knock offs of popular mainstream artists, and it's still as divided as it was when we (the Justus League) started making waves. The artists don't stick together at all to try and make synchronized moves instead the crabs in a barrel ideology still exists heavily here. When somebody from NC really starts making a name, the weak and the jealous go into negative mode and kick dirt instead of trying to build with that somebody. The state that once could've been the next "scene" recognized by other areas is now mostly mediocre or below average "artists" more concerned with keeping up with the rest then being original. IF you do your research you will see that anybody that actually accomplished some things in this music they didn't follow suit, they went outside the box.

The Giant Blast: Are there any personal experiences with crabs or jealous emcees that you'd like to share, that maybe someone else can learn from?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I won't even shed light on the envious but just know in NC (and other states from what I've seen/heard) the more successful you are the more hate you will receive from the bitter stagnant locals. It's like people root for the underdog but once that underdog gets a little "too known" and starts resembling the over dog, those same people turn on him.
I mean there is small timers out there that have never met me at all- that have gone to great lengths to hate me: recording whole songs about me or taking shots just because I've been in magazines, on tour, and have albums in stores and again never met me and I've done nothing to them, other than be talented and try to make a name for myself, and that sadly is the majority of the NC music population (crabs in a barrel).

The Giant Blast: Do you feel that artists having the crab mentality is a hip hop thing, or do you think artists and entertainers in all fields and genres of music go through it? I know every field has it's "haters", but do you think it's more of it in hip hop and why is that?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: Yeah I feel it's Hip Hop based for certain, I've dealt with artists from all different genres and I never really heard anything like Rock bands making dis songs about other Rock bands because they have an album in stores.
Hip Hop or "Rap" music is what it really is these days breeds that negativity that causes these spiteful attitudes and ignorant occurrences.

The Giant Blast: Ok, on to something positive, any good news in 2010 you would like to share with the public?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: Good thing in 2010 is I'm alive and well, just happy to be here everyday I don't take this life thing for granted too many people do.

The Giant Blast: What projects are you working on now?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: Right now I'm only doing guest appearances, if I run into a new situation soon then I'll get to work on my new album Amerikkkan Psycho, but I'm gonna get this ihatelegacy site officially up and running, and we're gathering footage to release this I HATE LEGACY DVD sometime this year, other than that maybe try and get off of some of the many unreleased songs I have in the stash through mixtapes and what not.

The Giant Blast: What type of features and content can fans expect on your ihatelegacy site once it's launched?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I wanna do something different then the "typical sites" or just another blog. I want a full blown site and it will have all of the material that people are not able to find by me and whatever I may find interesting. Might try and tie things other then music in other things I find interesting (movies, sitcoms, porn, cooking) but something different 1st and foremost.

The Giant Blast: Speaking of different stuff that you are into, what are you into? What interests L.E.G. outside of what's going on in the music world?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: Well what goes on in the music world 9 outta 10 times now does not interest me, but yeah I want to use my writing for more then just rap. I'm in search of a book deal right now, and I'm toying with some screenplay ideas as well.

The Giant Blast: What screenplay ideas do you have in mind?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I've been piecing together one called "Black QB Conspiracy" for a while and it's developing maybe I'll be able to get in touch with somebody that can help with it, but I've got the prototypes laid for several cutting edge projects hopefully I can get the right people involved and maybe turn them from paper to reality. I've got some vivid and detailed dark material and I wanna dive into the random "one liner comedy" realm like the Hangover, Family Guy, Anchorman, I would love to get involved with something like that.

The Giant Blast: Have you thought about getting into acting yourself or have you dabbled in that already?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: well yeah I've dabbled in it I would like to take it more serious you know take classes and all that, but then again I might wanna just be behind the scenes doing the writing I don't know depends on the situation I guess.

The Giant Blast: Getting back to something you said earlier, you are working on an I HATE LEGACY DVD sometime this year, what do you plan to include on this DVD?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I've got some rare and hard to find performance footage, well hell not hard to find impossible to find (laughs) and I've got some interviews I'll do some Charlie Murphy true story talk over type action (laughs). It'll be outside the box though. The music videos I've done, some exclusives something fresh.

The Giant Blast: Also getting back to the music, the reason you are holding off on getting into Amerikkkan Psycho is because the album doesn't have a home yet or... ?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I have options as for the home but at this point if there is no real money/machine to push or promote it properly then it's just classic material falling on a lot of deaf ears like Suicide Music, but I'm so far ahead that most people don't pick up on my material to later in life, I feel like Marty Mcfly playing the electric guitar in Back to The Future 1 at that dance most of the time when I release new stuff.

The Giant Blast: Speaking of Suicide Music falling on deaf ears, what do you think could have been done differently as far as the promotion for that project?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: Just didn't have the proper funding to push an album of that magnitude, I did what I could but the amount of free downloads ran laps around the actual sales plus and a negative many many people are interested enough to download my music for free which is good but not pay for it which is bad. It happened how it was meant to happen and I have no regrets and I don't blame anybody in particular.

The Giant Blast: Last time we spoke you talked about retiring from music, but after hearing your plans to one day put out Amerikkkan Psycho are you still planning on leaving the mic after that project or is Amerikkan Psycho just the beginning of a new era?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I mean it's one of the 2. No in between but the way things look right now like today I'm gonna go on to greener pastures, I would love to get back in the lab and try to top Suicide Music..I compete with myself on the music thing.

The Giant Blast: Last question...anything you would like to plug, any last minute shout outs?
L.E.G.A.C.Y.: I HATE LEGACY site and DVD coming soon, there will be some sort of mixtape with each most likely, The NC Chainsaw Massacre (Director's Cut) is almost done, but yeah we'll see what happens maybe I'll do music maybe not,
and shout outs to all my true supporters out there that have rode this thing out with me!
